Imagine……being in a place where you are completely defenseless. You don’t have the physical ability to run, nor the mental development to plead for mercy or even to fully understand the danger that menaces you. You have committed no crime, yet there are those clamoring for your blood. You cannot see the instruments of torture and death which are coming to wring the life from you, yet you instinctively sense something is wrong. You feebly attempt to struggle, but to no avail. You feel pain. You try to cry out, but cannot; you have no voice. You have no rights, and because it is deemed worthless and burdensome to those who have full use of their gifts, your life is mercilessly snuffed out.

Such is the fate of an unborn child every twenty-five seconds in America.

When does life begin?

Abortion advocates say that an unborn child is not a person until it is born and can survive on its own. Yet what really changes in that split second when the child exits the womb? Babies are born at all stages of pregnancy; some survive and some don’t. Are those preemies who depend for months upon ventilators not alive while they cannot live on their own? There is something wonderful and scientifically unexplainable about human life which is given by the Creator at the moment of conception.

Women say: “But it’s my body; it’s my life.” Is it really? When a woman is pregnant, does she have two heartbeats? Does she have two brains? Does she have twenty fingers and twenty toes? No. Another life being inside of her body doesn’t make it hers, and it doesn’t give her the power of life or death over it.

If an unborn baby is nothing but a blob of cells, then so are you. If I could kill my unborn child because he is hindering my life, the logical end is that I could take the life of anyone who is causing me discomfort.

A Christian perspective

There is a troubling lack of concern among Christians over the issue of abortion. I recently attended a political debate, where the abortion question was posed. One candidate, while claiming the name of Christ, insisted that he could not say what should be done in the cases of rape and incest because he didn’t know how he would feel had it happened to his daughter.

Many Christians have ceased to base their beliefs on the principles of Scripture. Instead, feelings are what determines right and wrong. Life is precious because every baby, whatever the circumstances of his conception, is created in the Image of God. It is God Who gives that baby a spirit, and breaths in him the breath of life.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee….” (Jer. 1:5)

A historical perspective

There have been many cultures in the past which have embraced the perverted practice of human sacrifice. Yet among all those ancient civilizations, the Mayans, Aztecs, Celts and others, none continue to this day. Nothing remains but a few scattered ruins to tell their tragic tale of conquest and defeat. These all bear witness to the fact that no society which is so debauched in its morality can long endure. But, you say, abortion is not human sacrifice! Tell me then what is it, if not an offering to the gods of humanism, falsehood and selfishness upon the altar of pleasure and comfort and convenience? Take warning America; history shows your looming fate.

Do something!

In the first place, never let the subject drop. This election cycle has been less about abortion than any other that I remember. Never, never, never lose that sense of horror that such barbaric cruelty should excite, and keep it as a prominent issue until it is done away with.

In the second place, you can pray, and get actively involved. Pray, not only in the quietness of your home, but in front of abortion clinics. Get involved with a program such as 40 Days for Life, or start your own. Lives are saved when people pray. You can also volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center. Many girls don’t want to abort their babies, but feel that they don’t have any other choice. It is important to communicate to them that there are other options, and many people who want to help them.

The womb is the only place in America where a human being is denied the inalienable right of life given him by his Creator. The womb, which should be a shelter of safety, is the most dangerous place in the world. What will you do? Will you hasten the digression of our nation by supporting this new era of death? Or will you fight for a society that values every life as precious?
